MORE than 6,000 people came to Glastonbury Abbey at the weekend to see it transformed into a medieval fayre with battles, jousting, and other activities. 

Glastonbury Abbey Medieval Fayre took place on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 at the site of the former monastery.

The event took place across the entire abbey grounds and ran between 10am and 5pm on both days. 

The event also featured axe-throwing, archery, and a viking area. 

History enthusiasts could take part in a range of activities such as cooking, leatherwork, and spinning.

A spokesperson for Glastonbury Abbey said: "The 2022 Glastonbury Abbey Medieval Fayre has been a great success.

"More than 6,000 people attended across the weekend, the weather was kind, and a great time was had by all.

Some attendees left positive feedback on social media after the event, with two people calling it an "absolutely amazing day" and "fantastic". 

The spokesperson added: "Interest is already high for next year’s event, which will again take place in April."
