A STREET food business that has served up customers from a retro van in Taunton since 2016 is to open a restaurant in the town.

Silvan's is looking to open in a former hair salon in High Street this summer.

The owners are working to get the kitchen ready after finding "many hurdles".

Silvan's has offered 'one stop' Mediterranean and Middle Eastern street food over the past six years.

A spokesperson posted on Facebook: "Many of you are asking about the new place and so here is an update.

"We are beavering away getting the kitchen transformed.

"With the huge task of converting a salon to a restaurant we have found many hurdles but hope to be ready in a two months.

"We will be going for a full-on Silvan’s feeling, with traditional Middle-Eastern and Mediterranean food - more extensive than what we offer now.

"We are very excited and can’t wait for it to be ready."

The family business - described as 'East meets West' - is run from a Fore Street pavement by one partner born and raised in the West Country and another born and raised in the Kurdish east of Turkey.
