FIVE people, including a teenage boy, were arrested on suspected firearms offences after armed police surrounded a house in Taunton in the early hours.
Officers were called to the property in the Baldwin Road area of the town shortly before 2am yesterday (Tuesday, May 3).
A member of the public had dialled 999 after hearing a suspected starter pistol being discharged on multiple occasions.
The arrested males were aged 14 to 42 and were taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
They have since all been released under investigation.

A search of the address was subsequently conducted and a number of air weapons and imitation firearms were taken away by police.
Officers also seized several items that are suspected to be stolen property.
CCTV and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing.
Extra reassurance patrols will be conducted by neighbourhood officers.
Police are also working with partners to tackle antisocial behaviour in the area.
