FIVE drivers from Somerset have been fined and handed penalty points after committing offences on roads in Devon, Cornwall, and Dorset last year. 

Three were caught speeding, one failed to give information relating to the identification of a driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence, and one committed several offences. 

They were sentenced either by magistrates in Bodmin, Cornwall, or in Weymouth, Dorset.

Timothy John Towill

A man from Taunton has been handed a court bill of £305 after he was caught exceeding the speed limit on a Devon dual carriageway in a Volkswagen T-Roc car.

Timothy John Towill, of Edward Court, Taunton, committed the offence on September 4, 2021, on the A30 near Tedburn St Mary.

Court documents do not disclose the speed Towill, 33, was travelling at.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure on Tuesday, May 3.

Towill has been fined £181 and ordered to pay £90 in court costs and a £34 surcharge to fund victim services by a magistrate in Bodmin.

He was also handed three penalty points.

Court documents say his guilty plea was “taken into account when imposing sentence”.

Jon Dean Anderton

A driver from Taunton must pay over £800 after he was proved guilty of failing to give information relating to the identification of a driver when required in Crownhill, Plymouth.

Jon Dean Anderton, 38, “failed to give information relating to the identification of the driver of a vehicle who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence” on October 29, 2021.

Anderton was proved guilty under the single justice procedure on Tuesday.

A magistrate in Bodmin fined him £660 and told him to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge, giving him a total court bill of £305.

He also had six penalty points added to his driving licence.

Brendon James Goddard

A 46-year-old man from Somerton has been fined after driving a Peugeot Expert Pro van at a speed exceeding 60mph on a dual carriageway in Devon.

Brendon James Goddard, of St Cleers, committed the offence on the A38 near Wrangaton on August 16, 2021.

The speed limit for van drivers on dual carriageways is 60mph, rather than the 70mph limit for car drivers.

Court documents do not state the speed Goddard was driving at.

Goddard pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure on Tuesday.

He was fined £115 by a magistrate in Bodmin, and he must also pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge to fund victim services, giving him a £239 court bill.

Goddard was also handed three penalty points.

His guilty plea was considered when he was sentenced.

Andrew Ivor Michael Waters

A van driver from Taunton has been fined after breaking the speed limit on a dual carriageway just outside Plymouth on August 31, 2021.

Andrew Ivor Michael Waters, of Newbarn Park Road, was driving a Volkswagen Crafter on the A38 near Plympton when he exceeded the 60mph limit.

Court documents do not indicate the speed he was travelling at.

Waters, 48, pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure on Tuesday.

He was fined £130 and told to pay £90 in court costs and a £34 surcharge to fund victim services by a magistrate in Bodmin, giving him a total of £254.

Water was also handed three penalty points.

His guilty plea was considered when his sentence was imposed.

Kenneth Goodman

A man from Yeovil has been handed a £506 court bill after pleading guilty to a string of offences he committed on November 6, 2021.

Kenneth Goodman, of The Avenue, pleaded guilty to the offences at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The Ford van driver has been fined £120 for failing to stop after a road accident; £80 for driving without due care and attention; £120 for driving without third-party insurance, and £40 for driving “otherwise than in accordance with a licence”.

He was also ordered to pay £110 in costs and a £36 surcharge in relation to failing to stop after the road accident, which saw a boundary fence and field damaged.

Goodman will pay his £506 balance in instalments of £20 per month starting on May 31.

Goodman also received eight penalty points.
