AN 18-year-old from Frome has been ordered to pay a significant sum of money in compensation to the owner of a BMW after causing criminal damage to his car.

Lennon Cotterill, of Broadway, caused damage worth £1,699.99 to a BMW X5 sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, on November 14, 2021.

Court documents say Cotterill was “intending to destroy or damage such property or being reckless as to whether such property would be destroyed or damaged”.

He pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to property valued under £5,000 on Friday, May 13 at South East Wiltshire Magistrates' Court in Salisbury.

Cotterill must pay the full amount (£1,699.99) to the vehicle's owner by June 10 to compensate for the damage caused.

No order was made for court courts or a surcharge to fund victim services.

Court documents say that his guilty plea was “taken into account when imposing sentence”.
