A SERIES of events have been scheduled in and around Taunton to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The event marks the Queen’s 70-year reign, and many initiatives and events will begin on Thursday, June 2, when the coronation took place in 1953, and will continue until June 5.

Many events will take place in Somerset too and will include picnics, concerts, street fairs, and beacon lighting.

Here is a list from Visit Exmoor of some of the events that will mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in and around Taunton.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail

SWT is proud to confirm that Taunton is taking part in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail encouraging people to explore the town and spot seven characters from Buckingham Palace.

People can locate each of the characters displayed on window stickers by businesses around the town, you can scan a unique QR code to engage with the story and learn about a different decade in Her Majesty’s 70-year reign.

Jubilee Arts and Craft Workshops in Taunton

Somerset West and Taunton and GoCreate Taunton will be running free workshops where children are invited to take part in Jubilee arts and craft activities to design a crown fit for the Queen.

Children will be able to make a crown fit for HM The Queen to enter into the fancy dress parade at Vivary Park on June 5 2022.

Workshops will be held on: Tuesday 31 May 2022 - 10am to midday at Flook House, Belvedere Road, Taunton TA1 1BT

Wednesday 1 June 2022 - 10am to midday at Priorswood Library, Hillside Children's Centre, Eastwick Road, Taunton TA2 7HD Thursday 2 June 2022 - 10am to midday at All Saints Church Hall, Outer Circle, Taunton TA1 2DE

Parents are required to accompany and supervise children during the workshops.

Platinum Jubilee Beacon Lighting, Wellington

This is a free event supported by Wellington Town Council.

On Thursday, June 2, Wellington will light a beacon on Hilly Head to honour the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.

On Friday, June 3, people are invited to host their own street celebrations.

On Saturday, June 4, there will be a street fair in the town centre.

On Sunday, June 5, there will be a Civic Service at St John’s Parish Church at 10am; from 2.30pm until 5pm, Concert and Picnic at Wellington Park.

From 10am to 4pm, there will also be a street fair in Wellington, with live entertainment and more than 50 stalls.
