TWO Somerset drivers have received six-month driving bans “due to repeat offending” after breaking the law on roads in the south west.

One was handed a six-month disqualification after pleading guilty to being in charge of a vehicle while unfit to through drink.

The other was caught exceeding the 60mph speed limit for vans on an A-road in Cornwall.

Two drivers from Somerset received fines and penalty points earlier this week after committing driving offences towards the end of last year.

James William Fletcher

A man from Yeovil has been banned from driving for six months after admitting being in charge of a Ford Fiesta in Exeter while unfit through drink.

Court documents say James William Fletcher, of Cedar Grove, was “in charge of a mechanically propelled vehicle” on October 4, 2021 “whilst unfit to drive through drink”.

Fletcher, 34, pleaded guilty at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 17.

He has been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for six months.

Court documents say the ban was “obligatory due to repeat offending”.

He was also slapped with a £150 fine and ordered to pay £40 in court costs and a £34 surcharge.

Fletcher will pay his £224 court bill in monthly instalments from June 14.

Duncan Cormac Edward Cleere

A Monkton Heathfield man has been fined after admitting speeding in a Mercedes while drawing a trailer on the M5 near Sampford Peverell in Devon.

Duncan Cormac Edward Cleere, of School Road, was caught exceeding the 60mph motorway speed limit for vehicles with a trailer on November 29, 2021.

Court documents do not indicate the speed Cleere, 55, was driving at.

He pleaded guilty under the single justice procedure on Monday, May 16.

He was fined £203 by a magistrate in Bodmin and told to pay £90 in costs and a £34 surcharge.

Cleere has until June 27 to pay his £327 court bill.

He was also handed three penalty points.

Cleere also pleaded guilty to driving with a trailer “in the right-hand or offside lane” of the motorway, which towing drivers are not allowed to use.

He received no separate penalty for this offence.
