SOMERSET West and Taunton Council have said they have not 'been notified' of any incidents involving fascist graffiti in Taunton.

A spokesperson from the council said: “Our Street Scene team hasn't been notified of any specific incidents concerning fascist graffiti in public areas or council properties in Taunton recently.

"However, anything reported as offensive would be removed within 24 hours by our cleansing contractor.

“We would encourage people to report incidents of graffiti online via our Flyposting and graffiti webpage."

Their comment comes after the police confirmed yesterday they have been made aware of some incidents.

A spokesperson from the Avon and Somerset Police told the County Gazette: “The Neighbourhood Policing team are aware of instances of offensive graffiti appearing in the Taunton town centre and Trull areas.

“Officers are working with partner agencies on this issue and are appealing for offences to be reported, so they can be investigated."

The council also said that graffiti removal has been made a priority for their Environmental Improvement Fund.

“Graffiti removal is identified as a priority in our Environmental Improvement Fund for which £600,000 was set aside in our budget for 2022/23.

"The fund includes provision for everything from repair and replacement of street furniture, to street cleansing and refurbishment of our public tennis courts."

In recent weeks members of the Taunton community have reported a number of instances of fascist graffiti on lampposts and fences in the area.
