SEVERAL independent businesses in Taunton, Wellington, and West Somerset have received 'very good' food hygiene ratings following their latest inspections.
National chain restaurants and cafés including Pizza Express, Subway, and Costa Coffee have also received a rating of five.
Local authority food safety officers inspect businesses and give them a rating from zero to five to be displayed on their premises and online.
The ratings help consumers decide where to buy and eat food by providing clear information about businesses’ hygiene standards.
Ratings are typically given to places where food is supplied, sold or consumed.
This includes restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways (including vans and stalls), canteens, hotels, supermarkets and food shops, schools, hospitals, and care homes.
This is what the ratings mean:
5: Hygiene standards are very good
4: Hygiene standards are good
3: Hygiene standards are generally satisfactory
2: Some improvement is necessary
1: Major improvement is necessary
0: Urgent improvement is required
