TWO Somerset van drivers have been fined and handed penalty points after exceeding 60mph speed limits on dual carriageways in the south west.

While cars are allowed to travel at 70mph on dual carriageways, most vans must not exceed 60mph.

Drivers can be fined up to £1,000 and receive up to six penalty points for speeding on single or dual carriageways.

One man from Wellington has been fined £500 for breaking the speed limit on the A30 near Lanivet, Cornwall, after pleading guilty under the single justice procedure.
