A TAUNTON town centre pub has submitted plans to convert a former public square into an alfresco dining area.

The owner of Pitcher & Piano has applied for planning permission to convert the eastern side of the Cider Press Garden into an outside eating area.

The change of use application was submitted on behalf of Marston PLC to Somerset West and Taunton Council in February and was registered last month.

The Cider Press Garden runs alongside the Corporation Street premises and is next to the footpath through to Bath Place.

Taunton's Pitcher & Piano underwent a £550,000 refurbishment earlier this year.

This planning application is one of 35 received by Somerset West and Taunton Council in the week ending May 27, 2022.

An application has also been submitted to reposition the clock at the Grade II-listed St John the Evangelist Church in Staplegrove so it can start working again.
