A NUMBER of police officers were called to Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton, in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, June 21).

They were sent to assist staff dealing who had concerns for the welfare of a "vulnerable person".

The officers were needed to ensure the safety of the patients and also NHS members of staff.

Officers remained on scene for a number of hours into the morning.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "Police attended Musgrove Park Hospital to support hospital staff who were dealing with a vulnerable person following a concern for welfare incident in the early hours of Tuesday 21 June.

"Four officers were required to ensure the safety of both patient and staff."
