HANNAH Hughes, 11, a Year 6 pupil at Trull Primary School, became the English U11 Girls Sabre champion at the England Fencing Youth Championships earlier this month.
Held in Hatfield, Hertfordshire on Sunday June 12, Hannah was the best in class as she defeated all her opponents along the way to the medal.
Hannah said after the competition how proud she was to become the champion.
“I really proud of my achievement and was super happy to win gold.
"I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of my coach Nat, my family and friends.”
Hannah belongs to Taunton Blades Fencing Club and is coached by Nathaniel Lewis and has been training hard and more frequently in the build up to the competition.
She has also won a silver medal at the British Youth Championships held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield last month.
