THE Queen Street Post Office in Wells will close on Friday and be replaced by a “temporary solution” at the city’s bus station.

The Post Office branch opened within the Natural Pets of Wells store in Queen Street on September 6, 2021.

To facilitate the Post Office branch, two new tills were installed in the shop that allowed customers to pay for pet products and postal services at the same time.

However, the Post Office has confirmed that the branch will close because of the postmaster's retirement due to ill health.

A sign near the bus station says a permanent solution is being sought.

The Post Office branch in St Thomas Street will not be affected.

The temporary Post Office branch at the bus station will open on Tuesday, July 5 at 1pm.

The bus station previously housed the Post Office on a temporary basis after the closure of its Market Place branch in 2020 and before it opened at the pet shop.
