A MAN from Wellington has been fined for driving on a road when the windscreen of his BMW was “obscured by ice” at the start of the year.

Michael Lankester Vaus, of Damson Row, used the vehicle on a road “when the glass was not maintained so as to afford the driver unobscured vision” on January 17, 2022.

Vaus, 67, committed the offence on Torres Vedras Drive in Wellington.

Court documents said the “front windscreen was obscured by ice which had not been cleared in order that the vision of the driver was not obscured while the vehicle was being driven on the road”.

Vaus was proved guilty under the single justice procedure by a magistrate in Bath on Thursday, June 23.

He was handed a £440 fine and told to pay £90 in court costs and a £44 victim surcharge.

Vaus has until August 11 to pay his £574 court bill.

Regulation 30(3) of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 says: “All glass or other transparent material fitted to a motor vehicle shall be maintained in such condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver while the vehicle is being driven on a road.”
