DRAGONS were released onto our streets in July 2014 as part of the Taunton Deane Dragon Trail.
Most dragons were be out and about on the streets of Taunton, Wellington, and Wiveliscombe.
They also heading for Oake Manor Golf Club, Churchinford, Trull and Stoke St Gregory.
Trail maps were made available from Taunton TIC and major libraries around the county for you to follow the dragons trail.
The trail raised money for good causes in Taunton Deane as well as bringing more people to our area to help local businesses.
Organisers also hoped that the trail would provide some good old fashioned family fun.
The project was spearheaded by then Taunton Deane Mayor Dave Durdan, who said: “Thank you to everyone who has helped get the trail this far. We hope members of the public like what they see.
“We’d remind everyone that this is very much a community effort, organised by volunteers and supported by children, students and local artists doing the artwork.”
Cllr Durdan made the trip around trail himself on the first Sunday in July 2014, starting at Vivary Park in Taunton at 10.30am.
Somerset College, which sponsored a dragon as part of the scheme, took delivery of its dragon on St George’s Day.
Deputy head of art and design Matt Cox said: “We’re delighted to receive one of the first Taunton Deane Dragons. Art and design students are being invited to submit their designs to decorate the dragon.
“The students are really excited about this project, and we’re looking forward to seeing some really creative designs that will inevitably cover many of the functions that are studied at the college, from painting to surface design.”
The winning design went on display at the college.
