MAGISTRATES have let a speeding driver off without disqualifying her so as not to damage her business.

Sarah Ruth Foord, 47, of Bickenhall, was given three penalty points at Taunton Magistrates' Court but was not banned from the road, despite passing the 'totting up' points disqualification limit.

She was fined £430 with a £43 victim surcharge and £90 costs after pleading guilty to doing 38mph in a 30mph limit on Pound Road, Broadway, on February 2 last year.

The bench decided not to impose a driving ban as it would have had a detrimental impact on her business and the eight people employed there.

According to her profile on Linkedin, university educated Foord is the managing director of Ilminster-based South West Motorhomes Sales Service and Hire Ltd and Journeys Motorhomes.

The court was also told a ban would impact on her family.

SAMUEL Frost, 24, of Victoria Street, Burnham-on-Sea, was banned from driving for 30 days after admitting speeding at 66mph in a 40mph zone on the A39 at Bridgwater Road Cross.

He was also fined £500 with a £50 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
