BISHOPS Lydeard Football Club boasts its very own lion cubs.

Talk is currently all about the England Lionesses, who captured the nation's hearts with their 2-1 win over Germany in the UEFA Euro 2022 final yesterday (Sunday, July 31).

Making a few waves more locally is the Bishops Lydeard Under 16 Girls, who have emulated the national team with a remarkable run of success.

They have won the Somerset Football League for the second year in a row.

They were also at the top of the table in the 2019/20 season when Covid unfortunately hit.

Coaches Luke Curtis and Dean Adams have mentored the same girls for many years and were proud to watch them succeed in what was the team's final season as many of the girls now move to the ladies' squad.

The players are extremely grateful to Luke, Dean, Julie Bowker and the whole Bishops Lydeard Club for their support and commitment, both to them as individuals and to developing women's football.
