THE monthly independent Shepton Mallet Sunday market ‘Summer Sizzler’ took place on Sunday, July 31.

The entertainment during the day included a traditional Punch and Judy show which was thoroughly enjoyed by the young and those who were transported back to their youth too.

There was also some balloon modelling where the onlookers got to take the creations home.

Local artists played live music to visitors while they browsed the fantastic artisans, crafters, bakers, and makers surrounding the historic market cross, there was even someone spinning wool which fascinated onlookers.

One visitor said: “We had a lovely time, even though we got pretty wet. Kids loved Punch and Judy and we enjoyed some of Sean's cakes. Lovely to see more stalls this time too. Keep at it guys.”

A spokesperson for the organisation said: “Although we had a damp start the sun came out and everyone had a lovely afternoon.

“The Sunday Market always has a great atmosphere and brings people together. Our aim has been to support our local independent businesses and the market is a great opportunity to do just that.

“I am very proud to be a part of it and love the connection with the community that market day brings.”

The next market will take place on August 28 where you will have the opportunity to enter a Steampunk-themed fancy dress competition, with prizes for the best outfit.

It will be open to the public from 10am – 3pm and shops and cafes will be open in town too, so you’ll have plenty to see.
