A DEVELOPER has unveiled plans for seven bungalows on a village site not designated for housing.

Huntworth Properties has submitted an outline planning application for the homes for "older people" in Creech St Michael.

The plot is not included in a list of locations in the district where the council feels new homes could be built.

The company wants to build the properties on land at Dillons Road.

Access to the proposed site would be via an extension to the existing cul de sac.

A statement accompanying the application lodged with Somerset West and Taunton Council says: "The site is not allocated for development in the local plan and is outside of, albeit adjoining, the development boundary of Creech St Michael.

"In this respect, the application proposals are not in accordance with the development plan."

It adds: "Somerset West and Taunton Council cannot currently demonstrate an adequate supply of housing sites to meet it requirements for the next five years, as it is required to do by the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

"In such circumstances, the NPPF states that policies relevant to the supply of housing, including prescribed settlement boundaries identified in local plans, should not be treated as being up to date and the presumption in favour of sustainable development should apply to proposals for housing that can help to address the shortfall in the five year supply of housing within the area."

SWT will consider the application in due course.
