FIVE vehicles were “100 per cent damaged by fire” at Courtlands Industrial Estate near Norton Fitzwarren yesterday (Friday, August 5)

The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service was called to the industrial estate - located a few miles north of Taunton - at 11.04am to tackle the fire.

A service spokesperson said yesterday that the fire “started in trees and spread to builder’s scaffold and three vehicles”.

The fire was attended by crews from Taunton, Bridgwater, Street, Wellington, and Danes Castle (Exeter).

More details have now been released about the fire in the service's incident report, which reveals the extent of the damage to vehicles.

The report said: “Fire control received several 999 calls reporting thick black smoke in an industrial estate.

“Three fire engines were initially sent and, when crews got in attendance, they confirmed that this fire initially started in some trees but had now spread to some vehicles and scaffolding boards.

“A further two fire engines, water bowser, and a command support vehicle were also sent.”

The fire was extinguished using four hose reel jets, one foam jet, drag forks, and a thermal imaging camera.

The report added: “The fire involved five vehicles which were 100 per cent damaged by fire, fencing, trees and scaffolding boards. The cause of the fire was accidental.”

The A358 was closed while firefighters tackled the blaze. The road re-opened at around 1:30pm
