TWO people have been injured in a collision that left a passenger trapped in a car in Bishops Lydeard this morning.

The car's roof was removed by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment and other tools, and the passenger was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

Police officers were called to the A358 collision at around 9am, and Taunton fire crews arrived after being contacted by paramedics

The A358 was closed following the collision. It re-opened shortly after 12pm.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “We were called to attend a two-vehicle collision on the A358 at Bishops Lydeard at around 9am today (Saturday, August 6).

“Two people were injured in the collision. The road was re-opened at just after midday.”

A Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Fire control received a call from ambulance reporting a road traffic collision involving two cars.

“Fire crews confirmed a two-vehicle road traffic collision with one female passenger trapped in the front seat. 

“Fire crews removed the roof of the car using hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools. 

“The casualty was released from the vehicle on a spinal board and conveyed to hospital by ambulance. Crews left the incident in the hands of police.”
