AROUND 40 bands, artists, and DJs provided the entertainment at a global music and dance festival in West Huntspill.

After three years away, Whirl-y-Fayre held its eighth festival in Somerset between Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 7 at its new Old Pawlett Road venue.

This year's event featured some exciting changes, including the expansion of The Big Top to make space for two new food and drink outlets, Peter's Bar and Glenda's Café.

The festival was launched in 2013 by Whirl-y-Gig, an alternative nightclub based in Hackney Wick, London, that features drum & bass, dubstep, and trance music.

Whirl-y-Gig featured at many UK festivals, leading to the creation of Whirl-y-Fayre when the right site “in the legendary Realm of Avalon” became available.

Performers at this year's festival included Astralasia, Dr Trippy, and ManMadeMan.

The festival also provided an opportunity for rising stars and breakthrough artists like Hippo Sound System and Pan to perform.

The entertainment continued through the night at Robbie's PsyArt Tent and resumed early in the morning with a daily Breakfast Session.

Before the event, a spokesperson said: “After three years away, it's going to mean so much more to be with everyone involved this time round.

“Whirl-y-Fayre and Whirl-y-Gig events are made up of musicians, DJs, incredibly hardworking volunteers and thousands of loving, open spirits who come together to enjoy and share the love.

“It's all of you that turns what we do from an event to an experience.”
