THERE was much excitement for the return of the Cutcombe/Wheddon Cross Village Fete and Dog Show on Saturday (August 6).

People turned out in force for the event, which had not been held since 2019 due to the Covid pandemic.

The afternoon was opened by Sarah Bryan, chief executive of Exmoor National Park.

It included the wonderful produce marquee packed full of local entries of vegetables, cookery, flowers and handicrafts.

And there was plenty of fun for all the family with children's races, face painting, guess the weight of two chickens, skittles, tombola, grand draw, live jazz band, barbeque, Pimm's tent, tea and cakes, a history exhibition and lots more.

The fete raised just over £4,000, which all remains in the village to be split between local charities.

The whole team worked hard to prepare for the big day under the guidance of the new chairman Tracy Beviss.

She said: "Big thanks to Sue White (the previous chairman), who has done a brilliant job for the last 10 years.

"Massive thanks to all those who contributed to help, loan items, bake cakes for the teas, donated items and to those who helped with the judging and stewarding, so greatly appreciated."
