A PUB on the outskirts of Wellington reopens on Friday (August 12) following a £100,000 'refresh'.

There will be plenty of fun to welcome customers back at the Skylark.

And the spruce up has helped create five new jobs.

The pub was closed for a brief period during the work.

Visitors will be able to notice new soft furnishings and a newly designed social area, as well as the introduction of a new menu.

A spokesman for owners Martson's said: "The investment adds a modern take on the traditional community pub."

To mark the reopening on Friday, the team will welcome guests to a soft opening where they will get to trial the new menu for 50 per cent off, as well as their first drink on the house.

General manager Martin Ellison and his partner Kaye Mellor have recently re-taken over at the pub and have arranged for an exciting opening night that will include live music from guest singer Sadie Horler from 6pm untiol 9pm.

The new food and drinks menu showcases features such as two courses from £9.25 on selected dishes from Monday to Friday between 12 noon and 4pm.

There is also the addition of a full grill menu, as well as all your favourite pub classics and curries.

Martin is keen to keep the tradition of what he calls the pub’s "longstanding and much enjoyed events in the diary" as he looks forward into the autumn and winter.

Martin and Kaye initially started working at the Skylark seven years ago.

Since then, they have remained with Marston’s pubs and they are now looking forward to welcoming both old and new guests through the doors.

Martin told the County Gazette: "This is such an exciting moment for the Skylark.

"We have a fantastic team here and we’re really looking forward to bringing back what the Skylark once had to the community."

The pub has a team of 30 staff already and the refresh will be creating up to a further five jobs in the area following the six-figure investment.
