REBECCA Pow is set to open the 106th Wiveliscombe Flower Show and Fete is due to be held on Saturday August 20.

Held at the Rec in Wiveliscombe, organisers are excited to be returning the Show to its former stamping ground.

As well as Rebecca Pow opening the show, BBC Masterchef’s Food Critic, William Sitwell, has joined the judging panel for the Cookery Section.

The day’s events will begin with a Children’s Fancy Dress competition which will be judged by the new President of the Show, Bernadette Rowe and the theme is to dress as any of the classes from the schedule.

Chairperson Kirsty Boutflower explained: “We thought it would be fun to give the children and their parents plenty of scope for imagination so we are hoping for maybe some Scotch Eggs, some flowers, a vegetable or two and certainly a Chocolate Hedgehog Cake!”

It is hoped that the Show will in time become a regular fund-raiser for the town and money raised will go back into projects to benefit the whole community.

In newspaper articles found dating back to 1912, it was stated that money raised then was donated to a fund to provide a much need swimming baths in Wiveliscombe.

The Show opens at 12pm until 5pm and admission is free.

A commemorative programme will be on sale on entry and there will be a cash prize to one lucky person.

People can enter up until 12 noon on Saturday August 13 by giving their entries in at the Garden Shop, Wiveliscombe or anytime later that day at 18 Golden Hill, Wiveliscombe.
