CUSTOMERS at an award-winning farm have helped raise £1,300 for charity by buying a former BBC television and Radio Somerset journalist’s new book about his life in the industry.

Last November Rumwell Farm Shop started stocking Clinton Rogers’ autobiography in aid of St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the Farm Shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “Clinton retired from Points West in 2020, after more than 40 years in broadcasting and subsequently penned his book, ‘A life in Broadcasting – Celebrities, Wars and All’, which we’ve been selling here and costs £12. Every penny from each book sold goes to St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice.

“We were delighted that Clinton asked us to stock his autobiography here at Rumwell Farm Shop and that so much money has been raised for the hospice. It’s been very well received by our customers as Clinton is such a well-known personality in the area and was a popular TV and radio reporter.”

The book covers Clinton’s entire broadcasting career, from his early days on BBC radio to setting up BBC Somerset Sound, reporting for HTV West, and latterly becoming the BBC’s Points West news correspondent in the county.

Clinton says: “It was wonderful that Rumwell Farm Shop agreed to stock my book and help support the hospice.

“I really hope people enjoy my story and help raise invaluable funds for the hospice and its work in the area. I have a very strong connection with the hospice. It’s a charity very close to my heart.”

Within the book, Clinton talks about war zones he has been to, celebrities he has interviewed, some of whom come in for stinging criticisms, and corruption he has helped to expose.

There are tales of mud and stars at the Glastonbury Festival and how he once served a vodka martini, shaken not stirred, to James Bond.

Rumwell Farm Shop, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family.
