ONE of Taunton Town's summer signings is a familiar face for Peacocks fans.
Nick McCootie was originally with the Peacocks from the latter part of the 2008-09 season and remained at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium until departing for Bridgwater in December 2009.
The 33-year-old striker joined from Weston-super-Mare and brought with him a wealth of experience at a higher level.
After leaving Bridgwater he enjoyed successful spells at Cinderford and Paulton Rovers before linking up with Bath City in the early part of the 2014-15 season.
He continued his presence in the National League South when he signed for Chippenham Town in January 2018 until moving to Weston in the summer of 2019.
We caught up with the striker this week to discuss what it means to him to be back playing with Taunton and what his goals are for the season. Hint - it is goals.
"I have been around this league for a little while now, so it is just knowing what the teams all about, I am using that knowledge and experience to pass on to my teammates and the younger boys.
"Just want to let them know what to expect really."
In terms of goals, McCootie said: "To be honest all I have been thinking about is getting myself to the standard I know I need to be, and trying to help the team as best as I can.
"Goals of course, would be good, they will come though."
The team has welcomed in a number of new signings over the Summer and McCootie said the squad is in a good place.
"Again it is a new league for us, I think we will do our best, we have a good squad and I know we wont just be making the numbers up."
McCootie had a good game in the season opener last weekend.
He said: "It was a good test on Saturday, a different kind of test, it was good to be out there again starting the season off."
And on the Peacocks fans, he appreciates your support.
"The fans have been great, I remember them going back 12 years ago, I think they remember me too.
"They have been so good since I have been back, it is a good feeling having the fans cheering your name."
