A ROAD near Taunton has been re-opened after reports of a “small sink hole in the carriageway”.
Pitminster Road was closed this afternoon (Wednesday, August 10) as a "safety precaution".
Highways inspected the area and found “a void surrounding Wessex Water apparatus” which was investigated.
An initial message from Travel Somerset said: “Road closure alert - Pitminster Road, just north of Newton Lane, near Taunton, is closed as a safety precaution, reports of a small sink hole in the carriageway.
“Highways have inspected and found a void surrounding Wessex Water apparatus who will be investigating.”

The road re-opened at around 4.28pm as Wessex Water was "very swiftly on the scene to sort it," Travel Somerset said.

A Wessex Water spokesperson said: "We’re aware of a hole that’s been reported in the road this afternoon and are currently investigating the cause."
The road closure was in place until around 5pm
