A MAN was punched and left unconscious on Station Road last night (Friday, August 12) after an altercation with another man and woman.

A man was arrested later in the evening on suspicion of assault and remains in police custody at the time of writing.

The victim was taken to hospital after police and ambulance staff arrived to the scene.

It is believed the man was involved in an altercation with a man and a woman earlier in the evening at a Taunton fast food outlet.

Officers were initially called to the scene after reports of a fight and a couple leaving the scene in a white car.

The victim went to hospital where his injuries were treated and they are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Police are now looking for witnesses to the incident.

A spokesperson from Avon and Somerset Police has said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and any footage after a man was found unconscious with head injuries in Station Road, Taunton, at about 10pm on Friday, August 12.

"It's believed the man had earlier been involved in an altercation with a man and a woman at a nearby fast food outlet.

"Officers were called by a witness reporting a man being punched and a couple leaving the scene in a white car.
