A HOUSING constructor has apologised to a resident after she experienced “non-stop issues” in the property she has lived in for a year.

Persimmon Homes and Aster Group apologised to a woman who had issues with her kitchen unit, a leak in the ceiling, and the front door of her shared ownership Monkton Heathfield house.

The woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “We moved in here just over a year ago. We had nothing but non-stop issues from day one.

“We told them all the issues we found around the house but months later they said they never heard of any issues and that caused a massive delay [in repairing them].

“We had a pipe hanging off at the back of the house, multiple chips on our worktops and it took them over a year to repair them.

“It took just over the year mark to repair the kitchen unit that fell off while we were eating our lunch.

“The problem with the front door is still ongoing and they send the wrong door.

“We are having issues locking the front door because the lock is a bit stiff. The door is not framed very well, and it causes a bit of a draft. It makes the house colder in the winter months.

“There have been several issues and the biggest one for me was a ceiling leak in our front room.

“They would not take ownership and said it was all our fault. We must have used the kitchen five times.

“They blamed us for all the issues we had. It scares me because there must be other people in the same situation.

“I am sick of having to email them or call them, it is just frustrating.

“We have been able to use the kitchen, I can’t deny that, but there are multiple issues and they seem to fail to take ownership and if they do it takes forever and there is a backlog.

A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes South West said: “We sincerely apologise to the owner for the inconvenience caused.

“We have sought to address any issues once we’ve been informed, but regrettably the original replacement door we received from the manufacturer was unsuitable for the property.

“We have requested the manufacturer expedite production of the new replacement door, and we will ensure the resident is kept fully up to date with the timescales for all works required.

“We would like to once again apologise to the owner and reassure them that we are committed to resolving these issues so they’ll be able to enjoy their home for years to come.”

Aster Group said they are “very sorry” the woman “is experiencing issues with her home” and will “continue to work closely” with her to solve the issues.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We are very sorry this customer is experiencing issues with her home and we have been in regular contact to help her resolve these.

“As these problems occurred when the house was under a year old, they fall within the ‘Defects Liability Period’ which Persimmons, as the house builder is currently seeking to rectify.

“We assisted with the replacement of chipped worktops within the property earlier this year. As we understand it, with the exception of the new front door which is being urgently replaced by Persimmon, all other issues have been resolved.

“We will continue to work closely with this customer to ensure this matter is concluded to her satisfaction.”
