THE British Association for Local History (BALH) is hosting its first-ever regional conference in Taunton on Saturday 22 October.

Historians from across the country will be presenting about unexpected sources of local history and how they can be used.

Celebrating its 40th birthday, the BALH is the national charity for local history and local historians.

This event is part of their outreach programme, aimed at increasing interest in local history for study and pleasure.

Local BALH Trustee, Adrian Webb, said: "As a national charity we are keen to see more people involved in local history across the country.

"The reason for our Taunton event is to encourage more local historians to explore some unusual sources.

"We chose Taunton for our first regional conference due to its strong community, excellent transport connections, and fascinating local history."

Speakers on the day include Paul Dryburgh, Lucy Browne, Mark Forrest, David Killingray, and Jonathan Mackman.
