AVON and Somerset Police have published this picture of an illegal number plate from a car in the Somerset area.

The law states: "Number plates (also known as licence plates) must show your registration number correctly. You cannot rearrange letters or numbers, or alter them so that they’re hard to read.
"You could be fined up to £1,000 and your vehicle will fail its MOT test if you drive with incorrectly displayed number plates."
And this driver was fine over £1,000 for his plate. The reason being - there was an illegal space left between the letters and numbers.
A spokesperson for the police said the driver was fined for "Driving a vehicle when the registration mark fails to conform with regulations".
They added: "Driver took this one to court which resulted in: £412 Fine, £41 Victim Surcharge, £620 Costs.
"Illegal plates will be dealt with both through 3rdPartyReporting & our officers like this."
The police also added that: "If you see one of our enforcement officers out (vans & bikes) it is worth noting their role is more than just speeding.
"Our unit will report on all road offences in order to protect the public from the FATAL5 & those trying to evade detection RoadCrime."
