A POPULAR Somerset restaurant in a listed building has been sold.

Goodfellows, located close to Wells Cathedral, has been bought by Petra Edwards, who has a background in the hospitality industry.

It has operated as a restaurant for more than 30 years and was run by Adam and Martine Fellows since 2004.

The couple turned it into one of the most highly rated eateries in the city, with most of its clients from within a five-mile radius.

Mr Fellows said: “We had a great time running Goodfellows and met some amazing people, both customers and staff along the way

"However after 18 years, it was time to slow down a little and concentrate on our other site.

"We wish the new owner, Petra, all the best and hope she enjoys running the business as much as we did.”

Nicholas Calfe, director in property adviser Christie & Co’s pubs and restaurants team, who handled the sale, said: “I’m delighted to have successfully sold one of Wells’ most renowned restaurants during a difficult and challenging period for hospitality.

"With Covid behind us and confidence back in the market, we feel it is the right time for buyers like Petra to take on an established business and put their own stamp on it. We look forward to seeing her take the business forward.”

Ms Edwards said: “After spending many early years working in the hospitality industry, I wanted to find a restaurant to pursue my passion.

"Goodfellows was up for sale, and we went for it.

"We have had a painter, electrician, and carpenter in to give the premises a fresh makeover. The food we will be serving is a delicious twist of British modern and French cuisine all served with an exceptional selection of drinks.

"We want to source as much local seasonal ingredients as possible.

"Our chef is passionate about making everything fresh and has extensive experience in the industry.”

Goodfellows was sold for an undisclosed price.
