REACTING to Liz Truss's resignation, Taunton Deane MP Rebecca Pow has described the recent goings on as "pretty traumatic all round".
She said: "Obviously, it's all been very fast moving and I think a decision had to be made and swiftly. That's been done.
"In my view, something had to happen. It was the right decision.
"It must have been pretty gruelling for the Prime Minister herself, whatever one thinks about how she conducted herself.
"It's been pretty traumatic in Parliament all round."
Ms Pow added that any Conservative MP who wishes to run for the leadership should first obtain the backing of "a great many" colleagues - maybe around 70 - before being allowed to enter the ballot to ensure "a serious" contest.
She would like to see the new PM in place quickly, hopefully within a week.
