THE Asda store in Taunton is hoping to secure a licence to supply "late night refreshments' into the early hours.

The company has applied to Somerset West and Taunton Council (SWT) for a licence to cover the proposals.

It intends to serve the refreshments from its premises in Creechbarrow Road between 11pm and 5am Mondays to Sundays.

The precise details of Asda's plans have not been revealed at this stage.

The current opening hours of the main store are 6am to midnight Mondays to Fridays, 6am to 9pm on Saturdays, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.

It also has a 24-hour fuel station on the site.

An Asda spokesperson said the company would not comment on the application at this time.

They said: "I'm afraid we wouldn't offer comment whilst the application is open."

The application was submitted to the council last Thursday (November 10).

Anyone who wishes to make a representation concerning the application should contact SWT via its website by Thursday, November 24.
