A PUB near Taunton is showing “a great deal of improvement” after a poor food hygiene inspection.

The Merry Monk in Monkton Heathfield was given a one out of five rating after a Food Standard Agency inspection carried out in September.

However, Somerset West and Taunton Council could confirm that now the report in September does not reflect the standards at the pub.

The Merry Monk has also applied for a re-rating which will take place “as soon as possible”.

A statement from the pub read: “We have acted quickly and decisively to the issue raised in the inspection and as a result of that have made significant investment in infrastructure and training and look forward to the re-rating in the near future.”

A spokesperson for SWT said: “The inspection of the Merry Monk, giving them a 1 rating was carried out on 21 September 2022.

“Since that time a revisit has been carried out and a great deal of improvement has been made meaning the report dated 21 September 2022 is no longer a reflection of what can be found at the business.

“The business has also now applied for a re-rating which will be carried out as soon as possible.”
