A PONTOON used during the construction work on a recently completed riverside development in Taunton has broken loose.

It then floated downstream to Firepool Weir, where it was spotted by Barry Havenhand, who pinged over the picture.

Workers used it during construction of the multi-million pound Coal Orchard scheme of flats, shops and restaurants and bars.

A spokesperson for Somerset West and Taunton Council said: "The pontoon is due to be collected by the suppliers following completion of the Coal Orchard plaza.

"We were made aware of the loose pontoon this morning (Monday, November 28) and have arranged for it to be retrieved and then removed by the supplier tomorrow (Tuesday, November 29).

A number of flats have been occupied on Coal Orchard, although no shops have moved onto the site yet.

It was rumoured that Pizza Express had been looking into taking space on the development, but that appears to have fallen through.
