A POLISH-born man from Norton Fitzwarren man who moved to the UK as a teenager is running a business from a shipping container in his garden.

Until this week, Jacob Kawka, now aged 25, had been making jewellery for sale all over the world in his garage.

But with the onset of winter, it was getting to cold to work there, so he ordered the container, which was delivered this week.

"I've always wanted to do my own thing, to have my own business," said Jacob, who started Kavka Jewellery a little over a year ago.

"I've always made things and am big into DIY. I used to make toy weapons out of wood and metal and transitioned in jewellery.

"I wasn't interested in football as a boy. I was quite nerdy.

"The idea of making jewellery just popped into my head one day and once I got to know the process, I became passionate about it.

"The first thing I made was out of copper and a bit of silver and it soon grew to fill the hole garage."

Jacob, who attended Taunton Academy after arriving in the area as a 14-year-old, even made his own engagement ring, although the relationship later ended.

He also made a set of wedding rings for his mother and her husband's wedding.

He added: "I make three or four pieces of jewellery a week, but it gets cold in the garage in winter, so I needed somewhere warmer and ordered the container for my workshop.

"I built capital to start the business by working as a healthcare assistant in Taunton

"I've designed every aspect of the business myself apart from some art assets.

"I'm making enough to live off at the moment. My best month I made £2,300 and I'm hoping to grow and grow."
