A SCHOOL in Taunton has been without heating for most of this winter, but despite that, children and staff have remained in attendance.

Wellsprings Primary School on Crowcombe Road, Taunton, has had issues with their heating system since October, a source has said.

Despite no heating, the school said that 'all classrooms are warm enough for staff and students to work comfortably in'.

Up until last week, when the heating was fixed and turned back on, the school has had to use portable heaters to warm up classrooms.

Headteacher Mark Lunn confirmed that the heating was back up and running on Thursday, December 8.

A spokesperson from Wellsprings Primary School said last week: “We are currently experiencing issues with our heating which are yet to be resolved due to global supply chain issues impacting on the delivery of replacement parts.

"Parents and carers have been informed and portable heaters have been provided by the school. All classrooms are warm enough for staff and students to work comfortably in, and no children have brought their own heaters into school."

To add to the issue with the school's heating, it has also had problems with its electrics and has suffered some power outages in recent weeks.

The school said this could have been caused by the use of all the portable heaters.

"We have also experienced some problems with our electrical supply which resulted in loss of power in certain areas of the school.

"We suspect the power outages may relate to either the known issues with the boiler, or the use of the heaters we have provided.

"The loss of power in the school office area was fixed within a couple of hours."

Wellsprings Primary School added that the issue to repair the problem was out of their control and at the mercy of suppliers.

"As a school we have tried hard to react promptly, but we have been at the mercy of suppliers being able to obtain the parts they need to carry out repairs.

"We are, however, reassured that we can expect this to be sorted very soon."
