POLICE have issued a safety warning after receiving “multiple calls concerning children playing on a frozen pond” in a Somerset town.
The Avon and Somerset Police control room has been notified of children playing on ice near Wilstock Way in North Petherton this afternoon (December 17).
Officers have attended the scene on “a few occasions” but reports are still being made to the control room.
Anyone who sees children playing on a frozen lake or pond should dial 999.
The warning follows the deaths of four boys after they were pulled from a frozen lake in Solihull, West Midlands, on Sunday, December 11.
They were aged six, eight, 10 and 11. They died after falling into the water at Babbs Mill Park. They were rushed to hospital but could not be saved.
A police spokesperson said: “This afternoon our control room have been receiving multiple calls concerning children playing on a frozen pond near Wilstock Way in North Petherton.
“Officers have attended on a few occasions but we are continuing to get reports about this.
“If you are aware your child has been playing near or around a frozen pond/lake, please give sufficient safety advice.
“Please dial 999 if you seen children playing on any frozen lake or pond.”
