SOMERSET quiz buffs who would like to brush off the cobwebs after an indulgent Christmas and New Year are being challenged to test their general knowledge in aid of charity at a family-run farm shop in the county (January 2023).

Rumwell Farm Shop & Café is hosting a Charity Quiz & Supper Evening in aid its Charity of the Year, Age UK Somerset, on Friday, January 27 at 7pm.

Anne Mitchell, joint owner of the farm shop, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, explained: “The New Year is a great time to take on a new challenge, so we’re urging quiz buffs to sign up to test their knowledge at our annual quiz night.

“We’re inviting people to get together in teams of a maximum of eight to have fun quizzing, while also helping us raise money for a great local charity.

“The winners of the quiz will take home some wonderful prizes to be shared with each team member and the glory of winning our Rumwell Cup.”

During the Charity Quiz & Supper Evening there will also be a raffle with a selection of prizes from our shop, our suppliers, and friends.

All of the money from the raffle will be donated to the charity.

Phil Dolan, chief executive of Age UK Somerset, said: “The benefits of keeping our minds active as we age are well known, but whether you are a general knowledge genius or not, this quiz night promises to be great fun for all.

“We really encourage people to take part, as even if you don’t come first, you’ll have a great night, and the older people of Somerset who need our help will benefit from your participation.”

Rumwell Farm Shop, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, is an independent, family-run, award-winning business owned by the Mitchell family.

It was originally a potato store, when David and Anne Mitchell began selling their potatoes and free-range eggs at the gate 25 years ago.

Due to customer demand, the range of products soon increased, and the farm shop grew into the place it is today.

David and Anne’s sons, James and Jack, are now also involved in the business, as well as their wives Sophie and Donna.

Rumwell Farm Shop, which has won nine Taste of the West Gold Awards this year for its shop and café and also for some of its made onsite products, has a traditional Butchery counter selling its home-reared and free-range pork and Rumwell Angus beef.

Its traditional, dry-cured back bacon was recently given the title of overall Champion Bacon in the Taste of the West Awards. There is also a Delicatessen, Bakery, Jam Kitchen, Food Hall, Wine Cellar, Gluten Free Kitchen, and Gift Room.

Its Café kitchen has also achieved Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free accreditation. The food prepared in the Café kitchen is sourced from the Farm Shop, the Mitchell family farm, which is just four miles away, and other regional suppliers.

Families are welcome to the Café and there is a menu especially for children. It also serves afternoon teas, Sunday carvery and is licensed to sell alcoholic beverages.

The Charity Quiz & Supper Evening in aid of Age UK Somerset will take place at Rumwell Farm Shop on Friday, January 27 at 7pm.

The supper will be served from 7pm and will cost £16.99 for two courses and the price includes a £1 quiz entry fee. Supper will be served from 7pm with hot food options followed by a choice of desserts.
