AFTER Taunton Town's impressive away win against Weymouth on Boxing Day, there was a positive mood in the squad.

They were on top for large parts of the game and took home the three points in convincing fashion.

Head of football Rob Dray said: "Very happy with that result, we showed some top spirit and we were absolutely fantastic today.

"We scored some great goals and we were very disciplined throughout the match."

And that is true; goals from Zach Smith, Lee Lucas and Nick McCootie sealed the win.

All three goals were of the highest quality. The pick of the bunch though was Lucas' effort from outside the box..

The central midfielder has enjoyed a difficult time at the Peacocks with injury, but this strike sealed his first goal for the club.

He added that his side were good for the win: "Both teams here turned up to play today but we took our chances really well so we were deserved of the win.

"There were mistakes and that was from both sides but we took our chances well to get the points.

"Scoring three goals away from home in the National League South is fantastic."

Dray went on to speak on the growth of Taunton Town in comparison to Weymouth.

"Let's not forget where Weymouth are, they are full time, they play a hybrid full time.

"They were two divisions above us this time last year. Twelve months ago we were sixth in the Southern League behind Farnborough.

"Lets just remember that, a magnificent effort from us, helped by some amazing away support."

And looking forward to the next fixture against Weymouth on Friday, December 30 he said: "Get to Friday and we go again, the spirit in the squad is high.

"Weymouth are a good team though, no doubt about that, and we know that going into the next fixture."

There is a few knocks in the squad.

"Lloyd James should be back for the next game but Dan Ball we are not certain yet. Will wait and see come Friday's match."

Taunton Town host Weymouth this week on Friday night. The match will kick off at 7.45pm under the lights at the Cygnet Health Care Stadium.
