A TEENAGER has admitted driving at twice the speed limit through his own village on the outskirts of Taunton.

James Marcus Greedy, 18, of Mead Way, Monkton Heathfield, pleaded guilty at Taunton Magistrates' Court to doing 40mph in a 20mph stretch of road at Yallands Hill, Monkton Heathfield on May 23 last year.

He was fined £100 and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge and £90 costs, while he was handed six penalty points on his driving licence..

Meanwhile, another young motorist from Taunton has been hit with a £140 court bill for jumping a red light.

Alex Kevin Gould, 20, of Staplegrove Road, pleaded guilty to the offence when he appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Court yesterday (Monday, January 16).

He committed the offence on the A38 at Chritchard Way in the town on May 20 last year.

Magistrates fined him £100 and ordered him to pay £40 costs, while he also received three penalty points on his driving licence.

Gould was also ordered to pay a further £30 costs for twice failing to attend for unpaid work he was ordered to carry out as part of a community order issued last year by the same court.
