A NEW pub is opening off Taunton town centre today (Tuesday, January 31).

The former Wetherspoon venue The Coal Orchard will open its doors to customers from 11am.

The premises in Bridge Street, which will retain The Coal Orchard name, will then open at the same time seven days a week.

It is being operated by Ana Gibbons and Bobby Rosca (pictured below), who have spent the past few weeks recruiting staff, putting in a new cellar, cleaning the premises and managing stock.

Somerset County Gazette:

The young couple have also been running the Britannia Inn, in Minehead, for the past five months.

Earlier this month, Ana told the County Gazette: "We're starting from zero because the business shut a few months ago.

"We're putting together a new team to put a little bit of new life into it and make it a really pleasant experience for everyone."

Ana and Bobby, who also previously ran a bistro in Minehead, have installed pool tables and gaming machines.

And on Fridays and Saturdays, they want to put on local bands and singers and even run karaoke evenings.

Somerset County Gazette:

They will be serving up "good food" and hope to open a carvery.

Ana added: "There will be special theme nights such as Mexican, Greek and so on."

Wetherspoon put the Coal Orchard and a number of its pubs across the country on the market over a year ago.

The top two floors of the four-storey building, which was built as a cinema in the 1930s, are leased to 24-hours-a-day gym Activate Fitness.
