A FURTHER £83,579 has been invested in upgrading children’s play areas in Taunton and Wellington.

Somerset West and Taunton (SWT) Council previously installed new playground equipment at play areas in the towns as part of its replacement programme to invest in community facilities.

A spokesperson for Somerset West and Taunton: “We've invested a further £83,579 upgrading our play areas to support active and healthy lifestyles for children, this time at Walkers Gate in Wellington and Compton Close in Taunton.”

Last year, the council invested £25,915 on the apparatus at Walkers Gate Play Area in Wellington, which was then replaced with a multi-play unit featuring a swing, slide, fireman's pole, climbing wall and counting panel; a four-way spring seesaw; talking tubes; and new shock-absorbing safety surfacing.

Additional play equipment was also completed at Compton Close Play Area in Taunton.

Deputy leader of the council and portfolio holder for Sports, Parks, and Leisure, Councillor Derek Perry, previously said: “We’re committed to investing in local amenities to support active and healthy lifestyles and I’m delighted we were able to give these popular play areas a new lease of life for children to enjoy.

Somerset County Gazette:

“I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to respond to us – it gave us valuable feedback to better understand the priorities for resident families and helped focus our efforts on providing equipment that will benefit most local children and young people.”
