The M5 has opened again this morning (Saturday, February 4) after being closed in both directions between Taunton and Wellington because of a police incident during the early hours.
At 1.24am National Highways reported that the southbound carriageway had been closed between J25 (Taunton) and J26 (Wellington) due to an ‘ongoing police-led incident’, and that the northbound carriageway was also closed to assist the emergency services in managing the scene.
At 2.53am National Highways updated: “The northbound has been released as the Air ambulance has now left the scene. Preparations are being made to reopen the southbound carriageway.”
Both carriageways were open at 3.12am with traffic beginning to clear. There are no further details about the incident at this stage.
