A TOTAL of 29 homes could be built on the site of a former care home in Wellington.
A planning application outlining proposals for the homes at Popham House, in Courtland Road, has been submitted on behalf of Gadd Properties Ltd.
The home closed in November 2018 but was temporarily re-opened to free up beds on the county's acute hospitals during the Covid-19 crisis.
It is currently owned by Somerset County Council.
The plans just unveiled for the near one hectare site include 26 detached and semi-detached open market properties and the conversion of Grade II listed The Court into three apartments.
The scheme also includes the demolition of Popham House and some "modern piecemeal extensions" deemed to be "unsightly modern and incongruous".
Before the county council took over Popham Court during the Covid pandemic, it was taken on by AdHoc Property Management, which converted it into temporary affordable housing.
Up to 25 property guardians lived there on rolling 28-day agreements to maintaining the property.
