A STATIONERY store at a Somerset outlet shopping centre is set to close after the company entered administration.

Paperchase will remain open “in the short term” at Clarks Village in Street before closing permanently, the shopping centre has confirmed.

At the end of January, Tesco agreed to buy Paperchase's brand and intellectual property – but the deal did not include the company's 106 stores or workforce.

The move means Tesco will be able to sell Paperchase products in its supermarkets.

Last week, The County Gazette reported on the upcoming closure of the Paperchase store in Fore Street, Taunton, after the Tesco buy-out.

Now, Clarks Village says the store at the shopping centre will remain open for a short period of time before closing its doors for the last time.

A spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to hear Paperchase has gone into administration and we’d like to wish everyone affected all the very best.

“The Clarks Village store will remain open in the short term and, moving forwards, our guests can be assured that we will continue to work closely with existing and new brand partners to deliver a great mix of stores, products and services.”

Paperchase opened its Clarks Village store in August 2018.

Jan Marchant, managing director of home and clothing at Tesco, said: “Paperchase is a well-loved brand by so many and we’re proud to bring it to Tesco stores across the UK.

“We have been building our plans to bring more brands and inspiration to the ranges we currently offer and this will help us to take those plans further.

“We look forward to sharing more with our customers in due course.”

Clarks Village welcomed activewear brand Sweaty Betty to the centre's Apple Court area on Saturday, February 10.
