THREE men have been arrested at Taunton's train station amid claims alcohol was stolen from behind the bar of a pub in the town.

Officers were called to a disturbance in the Kings Arms, in Staplegrove Road, at around 3.50pm yesterday (Wednesday, February 15).

On their arrival, bar staff told the officers, who had arrived from the police station barely 100 metres away, that three men involved had "just left the pub".

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: "After further enquiries three men were detained at Taunton railway station by about 4.25pm and arrested on suspicion of a burglary in which alcohol was stolen from behind the bar.

"One was further arrested for obstructing a constable in the execution of their duty."

Train passengers arriving at Taunton Station were shocked to see one of the platforms milling with police officers.

One of the witnesses told the County Gazette: "There was a large police presence, watched by passengers, on the middle platform.

"One half naked man was in handcuffs and there were other arrests."

The force spokesperson said three men arrested remain in custody this morning (Thursday, February 16).
